Day after

Got up this morning it Sunshine! Always makes the day brighter. :) 13 degrees, no wind. wore my crocs and walked down the driveway taking some pics.

Squee and Solo. Note that fence is a 3 strand fence with a ditch on each side of the drive that is full.
I love the snow.. I love the sunshine.. I am concerned as it is only December. What will the rest of the winter bring? Each new snowfall will plug us right back up. Will have to be careful anytime I leave, to make sure that I can get back home. Horses in barn will have to have water.

Here is another looking back at the house. These pictures remind me of trying to take pictures of the mountains. There in the moment looks like you will get a good representation of what you are actually experiencing. Then look at the photo and see that you just can't capture the enormity of the reality.

Sunday Afternoon with the Weanlings

Here is what the weanlings are doing today:

Take just a few minutes ago from the front sliding glass doors.. Zoomed in so that I didn't get the edge of the deck in there too.. I was out there half an hour ago filling out the markings page for a couple of their registration forms.
They have their winter jammies on. Sometime this week I hope to get them switched with the yearlings in the barn so they have a tern and some more hands on experiences.

Holiday Traditions Quilt Contest

Computers, Pictures, Mud

I am back.. The computer problems have been solved. Store laptop was bought at called and offered to replace it as it was one of only 2 out of over 500 sold that had an unresolved problem. Wow! Christmas at Halloween time.
And got internet antenna up on a pole, cable buried (this is after grill jumped ship off the deck and landed on the old cable incapacitating the internet)...

Mud has finally let up enough that I wore my tennis shoes this morning to do chores.. Here is Jason (actually this is practice to see if I can upload a picture now) with mud removed from legs and tail to take pictures for Lisa.

Threes

"They" say that things always come in threes... Well I have had a "three event" in the last month or so.. I had three people give me old reading material.. The first gave me a whole pile of old books and still has more that he would like to give me. The second gave me a stack of old (like from the 60's) Arabian Horse World's, a magazine. And the third gave me a whole box of quilting magazines - mostly from the 80's and 90's.
Has led my mind state back in time to see all of the old advertizing... Ya' know that a chainsaw company advertized one month in a Quilting magazine?? That was suprizing..

Finally Rain

It's been a long time waiting and a lot of dust to settle. My new gauge (full of spider webs) read a half inch. Rained off and on since I checked.. Lovely to see the mud colored horses!
Now I can start getting all of that dust out of my house.
Worked on Halloween small quilt and finished it yesterday! I didn't think me writing down what I do would be such a huge motivator for me to work on and finish things. Maybe I should add a list of horses feet to trim? :)
59 degrees, 98% humidity 9:13 am...

Sunday

It worked! I typed about the Roman Shade.. And made myself feel guilty about not getting the rings on it.. Excused myself right into doing it! And it wasn't as bad as I had thought it was going to be.. First, I had ordered 40 rings but forgot that I had ordered twice as many as I needed. So there were that many fewer to sew on. Second, it wasn't as hard to roll it up to get to the center ones. I used my flannel lined table cloth flannel side down on the floor so it would move around to me instead of me moving to it.. That worked even better than I planned.

Friday

A beautiful day once again. Dusty as has been the norm since Labor Day weekend.. Corn is getting quite brown - will be out before long and then the internet connection will be better and I can put pictures up!

Hummers are still here. Have been watering the P(h)asta garden to keep the flowers fresh for them. And keeping the feeder up.

Got Roman Shade ribs on. Now working on how to hang it.. Directions are good for 2 different ways, each has problems. Think we will use left over board to make blocks to hold it away from the wall and out from the trim piece. Now to get it cut, stained (I didn't plan for that, was going to cover it with muslin), and the equipment including the velcro installed.. Between those steps and the dust, I am procrastinating putting on the rings.

Pieced a Halloween wall quilt. Have batting and back. It is to be my first practice piece at machine quilting not-in-the-ditch. Couldn't resist getting some more Halloween fabric in richer shades. I can't believe it.

Monday

I love sharing my deck! Today three different people came to share their time with me. I love it!! And the hummingbirds showed off for hours! Moving from the maple tree to the Pa(ho)stas to the feeder to the lilac bush and back around again. So fun!

Next year plan is to have 3 flower pots on the deck with those little tiny hummingbird feeders in them to see if I can get them even closer. Maybe even draw more than one pair to live here.

The mares and babies in the front pasture were just as artistic as ever. I never get bored watching them even though when they are just lazying around.

Fairies had a Chimmney Fire

Saturday had a tree fire in a very much alive hollow tree. Figured the Fairies were cold on these abnormally chilly pre-Autumn days.. Took over an hour to put it out. Drafted up the holes about 25' into the tree. Looking out over the top of the monitor, I can see the green leaves of that tree. They don't seem to be any worse for the wear..

Also, I finished sewing on the velcro of Roman Shade. Very long process to get this done. Plan that the next one I make goes much quicker.

Friday - Football Day

What a wonderful day this has been. Perfect weather. Stuff done...

Yesterday we got string strung, insulators installed, string unstrung.... Today we put up the old wire so we could get the horses back outside... Trying to make it as easy as possible to do chores for when we are gone to Gold Star. Dan and I worked making it a perfect electric fence.. Even installed the new fencer. (Ask him how well it works! Making double triple sure that I never find out.)

He left to mow in town and I put the horses back out.... What a fiasco. Weighed all the options, figured out what order would be best to put them out... Put the young horse out first... She beat me back into the barn... Yep, right through 2 strands of electric fence that about knocked Dan down..... So caught her put her back. Drove 4-wheeler over to unplug fence (see - I can learn how to not get shocked) Fixed the fence. Drove over plugged fence back in. Still thought I had the best order, so put her back out this time staying to keep her away from the corner until she settled down.. Now, really, we are talking about 15' away from the other 2 horses that she is "attached" to... You would think she would be okay for me to walk that far and get the second horse... Nope, this time she just came straight through the gate... (didn't unplug fence this time, she just bent the handles, fixable without touching wire)

Since fence was still up, grabbed 2nd horse and figured first would just follow.. Yes, she did... However, she wouldn't go back through the gate. Instead she went between the fence and the barn... I had already changed this fence from the first breakage to 3 strands instead of 2..... One post away from the wide open gate and she does this little - hmmm, was going to use a dressage term but since I am still mad at her, she looked just like the MULE jumping demos .... Rocked back on her hind legs, front legs up off the ground and bam - right through all 3 strands of hot wire. I heard it zap her. Why o'why doesn't it stop her??

Broke top 2 wires... Wire laying on the ground zapping. Almost twitching the zap was so strong.. Quick put last horse out. Drive over unplug fencer (must be at least tenth trip to unplug fencer today). Fix fence. Drive over to plug fencer back in.. Done in.... Time to get chores done and quit for the day!!

Yesterday I also planted about 40 more trees. Watered them all today - takes almost 90 minutes. Sing to them and talk to them, telling them how nice it is going to be for the to Grow, grow, gRow!

Nephew Brady, a sophmore, started in the football game tonight. Team won! 35-7...

Got hardware for Roman Shade via Fed Ex today. Just needed to rest this evening so didn't start putting it together. Tomorrow afterall is another day.

60 degrees, 80% humidity. 10:08 and all is well.

Wed. Aug. 26

Well, I did put the desk top back together.. It lasted all of about 2 days. We had been getting a screen that indicated the hard drive was going to go and it was right. It did. Now to figure out what to do - replace the hard drive in the desk top, replace the lap top that died a quick death 2 weeks after the warrenty was up, replace the desk top.... And then to get the internet atena up higher... Working on friend's laptop.....

Put drapery lining on first Roman Shade. Was easier than I was expecting. Internal parts should arrive today or tomorrow..

Khisses new people are still happy with her - Yea!

Continue to get people asking for pictures of horses for sale. That is a good thing. One contact today actually has a horse we use to own! Small world for such a big place.

Added second round pen to inside of barn for turn out space for stall horses.

DH is on his way home from posting For Rent signs. Planning on stringing string (ha) for level insulators on new fence.

Hannah Bannana had a tummy ache this morning. Banamine and walking brought her out of it. Poor baby. Kept "smelling something funny" and laying down.

Okay - tried 3 times to attach picture... Didn't work so just get words today..

66 degrees 78% humidity 10:12 a.m

Friday

Its midnite. I have been contemplating starting this blog for months.. But what to say that anyone would be interested in.....

Today a horse we sold went to her new home.. Khisses went to be an 8 yr old girl's bestest friend.. They are all such a part of my heart, it is hard to see them go. In this case, she will be more loved or at least she will be an "only" to get all of the attention instead of it divided the way it is here. I see her hearing loads of secrets and sharing heartbreaks and hearing all sorts of ideas for many years to come. Maybe even absorbing some tears.

I ordered all of the hardware for the first quilt pieced window Roman Shade. I even got to talk directly to Terrell herself! I have never wanted anything on my windows - claustrophobic? - until seeing her designs. Now I see doing something for ever window in the house! Doesn't mean they have to be closed. What an outlet for my quilting desire. I do have pictures of the design as it has been put together. Will post when I figure out where they are.

Also put the desk top back together. If it hasn't been computer problems, it has been the Internet connection all summer long.. At least dt is working now. (and I am getting error message at bottom of this screen : could not contact blogger. saving and publishing may fail.) So maybe this will work. Maybe not.
Its 27 minutes later... 56 degrees 92 % humidity. Skunk smell alive and well... And I am off to bed.. Perhaps tomorrow the connection will be better and I will link my Shelfari account...
